Are Baby Teeth Wipes any Good?

It is never good to hear someone complain about cavities. If you are a parent, you might be worried about your kid and wonder if baby teeth wipes can help safeguard your kids against tooth decay. But before deciding on whether they are good or not. First, you should know what they are and what the experts say about them. Having full knowledge regarding baby teeth wipes and other oral health care tips will help you take good care of your child’s teeth.

What are Teeth Wipes?

Teeth wipes are small gauze-like pads that help to prevent cavities. They contain antimicrobial agents, which help to reduce the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Using these wipes can reduce the risk of developing early childhood cavity in your baby’s teeth.

How do Teeth Wipes Work?

There are a variety of teeth wipes available on the market and usually contain xylitol solution. Xylitol is a form of alcohol that is safe for humans to consume but is not easily processed by bacteria that cause cavities. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) states that there is a need for further studies on the efficiency of xylitol regarding cavity prevention. However, it supports its use.

Oral care tips for your child

Using baby teeth wipes may be a good option to take care of your child’s teeth and gums. However, there are some other steps that you should take into account, such as:

  • After a few days of birth, start cleaning your baby’s mouth with a clean cloth or gauze.
  • Take your child for a dental checkup after their first tooth erupts or before they turn one.
  • Once the teeth erupt, start using a toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste. But make sure not to use toothpaste bigger than a grain of rice.
